1/2 mile run for 10/1

We had great weather for our 2nd 1/2 mile run of the season last week. We had planned to run our 2nd 1/2 mile on September 24th, so our runners didn't improve as much as we anticipated with our training.
In their reflection last week many of them stated that started out too fast, so they weren't able to run the whole time, they ate too much or too little prior to running or they felt good in the run. We had 33% our runners improve their time. Ellish and Kate improved the most by taking off at least a minute off of their running times. We also had 20% of our runners ran within 10 seconds of their previous time.  We will keep working hard to improve our endurance, cardio and speed as the students made their personal goals.

Running Club September 17th

We will be having our fourth running club.  Welcome to the running club track 2. We will be working in our running groups and continuing to work on our running goals.  October 1st we will be completing our second 1/2 mile run to see how our runners are doing with their goals. Based on the students wanting to improve their speed and being faster we will do the 1/2 mile as I oppose to the one mile that was planned for the year.

We have discussed with the Drama club that the running club will continue to use the carpool loop for dismissal and they will be using the bus loop to reduce the amount of cars at the front area.

Here is the race info – let me know if you have question or need anything else. I’ll also bring by some bookmarks/cards that you can send home with students if interested.

On October 12, 2014, Applebee’s and The V Foundation for Cancer Research are hosting the first ever “Kids Helping Kids Triathlon”, with all proceeds going to fund pediatric cancer research at the Duke Children’s Hospital.  We are working hard to encourage as many kids as possible to sign up, have fun and, most importantly, help other children who are battling a terrible disease.

Below is a graphic with more info, and you can also find more details here: http://kidshelpingkidstri.racesonline.com/ (At some point down the road we’ll have a discount code that we can provide… when that time comes I’ll send that along as well).

June 3rd Running Club

We will be having our last running club of the season on June 3rd.  Track 2 runners and other interested participants will be running their mile or two mile run during our last running club. Tracks 3 and 4 students that have already run their mile times and are not interested in attempting to beat their previous times will be running with a group and play a variety of running games.  Reminder to bring appropriate shoes and a water bottle.  We would love to have some parent volunteers to run with the students but to also time the students at the start/finish line.

May 27th

We will be having our second to last running club on May 27th.  For this running club we will be running a mile for all students to see how they are doing with their pacing, endurance, and overall running.  We are in need of parent volunteers to participate in the run, but also parents that would be time keepers and record the students' times. Please email Michele Hamilton if you would be able to participate in time keeping or recording.  I hope everyone has a wonderful three day weekend and we will see you on the track Tuesday.  As of today the weather doesn't look the most promising, but we are optimistic about being able to run.

Running Club for 4/29

Due to inclement weather will be canceling our running club.

From WRAL -- Mostly cloudy, windy and very warm with showers and storms possible this afternoon and evening. Highs in the upper 70s-mid 80s. That stationary frontal boundary that was upon the area yesterday is still over us today. This feature will help lend any storms that develop this afternoon to take on some rotation and hence perhaps form a tornado. We do also have the potential for some large hail and some heavy rainfall that could prompt flash flooding. Tomorrow we may have a greater focus of strong to severe storms as the actual cold front arrives.

First Running Club

We had a great turn out for our first running club. We had forty-nine students and nine adults.  We worked on intervals and were able to run/walk for fifteen minutes and then complete three relays around the school.  The best part of the running club for me was hearing the runners' goals.

  • "be a faster runner"
  • "Beat my older brother running"
  • "be able to run longer without stopping"
  • "be the best runner"
Looking forward to meeting these great goals!  See you all on April 9th.

First running club April 1st

We are very excited about starting on spring running club, unfortunately the weather is not cooperating with us.  Due to forecast of cool weather and potential icy conditions we will be postponing our first running club meeting until April 1st (no fooling).  We can't wait to get on the track and get back to running at Brassfield.
