Long Distance
Today, the runners participated in long distance activities with their groups. We are getting ready for our 2 mile run in a few weeks! Congratulations to all of the runners who completed the 5k this weekend!
Our character trait of the week was respect. Congratulations to our winners...Giada and Briana. These sisters are always respectful and so sweet to their teammates and coaches. Way to go!
We loved listening to music and running this week...thank you to Mr. Colon for letting us borrow the stereo today. We had a lot of fun and even got to do one lap of "free style" dance moves during our warm ups today. :)

Angels Among Us 5k Fun!
It was a beautiful day at Duke this morning for the Angels Among Us 5k!
Brain cancer research is so important to many Brassfield families and it was so inspiring to hear stories of hope and be able to run with so many wonderful fighters and survivors.
Way to go Olivia for representing the Running Club!
Hopefully next Spring we'll get the word out a little bit sooner as this is such an excellent course for an excellent cause!

Spring Running Club 4/19/16
Today was a wonderfully warm day for the Running Club! We rotated between three stations today working on speed, strength, and agility. Coach Flahive led groups in games of fitness tic-tac-toe on the field focusing on teamwork. Ms. Pakes led groups in hill repeat relays and a planking exercise to help strengthen our core. And Ms. Harkey led groups in sprints around the track to work on our speed and agility.
Today's character trait was Good Sportsmanship. All of the coaches noticed two particular ladies who were always genuinely cheering on their teammates in their group. Way to go Abby and Zoe for showing great sportswomanship!
This Saturday is the Angels Among us 5K and Family Fun Walk which celebrates HOPE in the fight against Brain Cancer. This cause is near and dear to many Brassfield boys and girls. Visit their homepage here if your family would like to support the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center: http://dccc.convio.net/site/PageServer?pagename=angels_home
Ms. Pakes will be running the 5K with her blue Brassfield Running Club shirt on. Please let her know if your family will be attending as she would love to have more running buddies! :)

First Spring Timed Run Results!
Ms. Pakes here with a quick note about these incredible times.
Running Club members showed so much perseverance on Tuesday, especially since the route I explained was actually a 2K route! Don't worry, the times from Fall still reflect a correctly mapped out 1 mile course. I was just a wee bit zealous and added 0.24 miles while explaining the route this week, so the route was actually 1.24 miles. Way to persevere and go the extra distance!
Through the awesome power of math we were able to get the times adjusted to reflect their approximate minutes per mile pace shown below:

Spring Running Club 4/5/16
Today was our second running club of the spring season. We were excited to welcome several new runners this week! Students ran a timed mile run and did a wonderful job. We look forward to seeing their times improve over the course of the season.
Due to our distance run today the character trait of the week was perseverance. We were happy to see many runners showing perseverance throughout the run but two 4th graders stood out among the crowd. Congratulations to both Griffin & Spencer!
The mile times will be posted to the blog later this week. Congratulations to all our runners on a job well done! We look forward to seeing you all next week!
