We survived the rain scare and had a productive running club this week. We have increased our warm up run to about 3/4 of a mile around the school. This week's focus was "Playing Fair" congrats to Gabrielle and Anderson for exhibiting this character trait the most according to our coaches. We worked in three stations this week. The stations were running games, obstacle course (plyometrics) and Go Noodle (aerobic exercise). We reminded the students the importance of bring their water bottles. Next week we are focusing on encouragement. Happy Running!

Week 2 of Spring '15
We had a great second running club. We were working on "effort". Taylor and Jacob were the two students that stood out to the coaches for providing effort in their warm ups, races and during all events. We completed a .65 mile run for a warm up run with stretching following the run. The students completed a 1/4 mile timed run to create groups. Based on the students feedback it sounds like they prefer the 1/2 mile timed run. Next week we will be working on "playing fair" with some running games and races.

First Running Club
We have completed our first running club of the spring season. Our focus for today was ENTHUSIASM! We were very excited about running today! We completed our warm up lap around the school which is about 1/2 mile. We did stretches and completed interval work. We cooled down with some lively games of across the ocean. Congratulations to Sloane and Breckin for being our 2 students that showed the most positive enthusiasm for the running club. Next week we will focus on EFFORT!

1/2 mile run for 10/1
We had great weather for our 2nd 1/2 mile run of the season last week. We had planned to run our 2nd 1/2 mile on September 24th, so our runners didn't improve as much as we anticipated with our training.
In their reflection last week many of them stated that started out too fast, so they weren't able to run the whole time, they ate too much or too little prior to running or they felt good in the run. We had 33% our runners improve their time. Ellish and Kate improved the most by taking off at least a minute off of their running times. We also had 20% of our runners ran within 10 seconds of their previous time. We will keep working hard to improve our endurance, cardio and speed as the students made their personal goals.

Running Club September 17th
We will be having our fourth running club. Welcome to the running club track 2. We will be working in our running groups and continuing to work on our running goals. October 1st we will be completing our second 1/2 mile run to see how our runners are doing with their goals. Based on the students wanting to improve their speed and being faster we will do the 1/2 mile as I oppose to the one mile that was planned for the year.
We have discussed with the Drama club that the running club will continue to use the carpool loop for dismissal and they will be using the bus loop to reduce the amount of cars at the front area.
